RAW clay LAB Open Weekend

Come down to earth:
RAW clay LAB Open Weekend 12-13 June, 10-4, Eramboo

Join in a celebration of this natural landscape material with RAW clay LAB. Come down to earth, create, and see clay presented in dynamic new ways by 7 artists. There will be hands on artworks for you to make, wild clay processing demonstrations, a ceramic art exhibition and site responsive works to explore in the beautiful bushland of Eramboo Artist Environment at Terrey Hills.

Over the past few months RAW clay LAB artists Helen Earl, Christina Frank, Kath Fries, Mike Hall, Michelle Perrett, Jayanto Tan and Suzanne Davey have been collaborating creatively, exchanging ceramic knowledge, experimenting with unfired clay, hybrid ceramics and researching to present new experimental ceramic works in the Eramboo Gallery and grounds.

By connecting with clay the artists aim to develop a deeper respect for our ecology and natural histories. The project focuses on showcasing clay as an environmentally sustainable approach to art making. It recognises that clay has always been part of the human story, an unseen force in our connections with one another and the landscapes we live in.

“When I dig up and process my own local clay, I am very conscious that it is earth – I am literally taking from and using the earth for creative expression. For me, collecting and processing local clay and making useful pots is a very practical and physical connection to place, like gathering food from the wild.” Mike Hall, Scotland Island @mikefhall.
