Nygiah, I AM
An exhibition by Gaimaragal Group and
Gunyadu First Nations Aboriginal Women’s Corporation
WHEN: 8th-11th August 2024
OPENING: 8th August ~ 7 – 8.30pm
WHERE: Eramboo, 304 McCarrs Creek Road Terrey Hills
Over the last couple of months the Gaimaragal Group and Gunyadu First Nations Aboriginal Women’s Corporation have been gathering at Eramboo to create artworks for an exhibition which will explore an aspect of each woman’s life story. A journal will be kept on each piece, documenting their story and their inspiration and the works will be curated in a collective story and journey of each work. Ceremony and identity, history and place are themes which have run deep in discussions across the weeks.
As First Nations Women who come from different “Countries” and now live on Gaimaragal country, each have a story to tell about who they are, where their ancestry bloodlines travel and how they find themselves living on Gaimaragal Country today. While not all the women identify themselves as an artist, they prove that we all have a bit of artist expression within.
