Beyond the Surface: Works by Lachlan Chang
ADFAS Ku-ring-gai Emerging Artist Award
2–10 February 2019, 10am–4pm daily
Opening Event: Sat 2 Feb 2–4pm
Beyond the Surface explores artist Lachlan Chang’s experiences and encounters during his residency at Eramboo. His strong connection with the surrounding landscape is reflected in a range of multi-layered works.
Expressive mark-making and works on paper connect with fragile sculptural forms. Photography, sound recording and video capture the artist’s unique moments whilst immersed in the environment.
Chang’s creative practice focuses on the preservation of culture, memories and the environment. He is inspired by the beauty, complexity and intricate details of nature’s stunning forms; observing its movement, growth and change. In turn, he questions the impact of humanity, highlighting the need to protect and conserve the natural world.
Lachlan Chang was presented with the ADFAS Emerging Artist Award 2018, a one month studio residency and solo exhibition, supported by the Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (ADFAS) Ku-ring-gai.
He recently exhibited in ‘Constant Craving: Buy Me I’ll Change Your Life’ series, at Eramboo, curated by Dr. Therese Kenyon. Chang is studying a Bachelor of Design at UNSW Art & Design (COFA) in 2019.
